Mythology Dictionary - Abadiros

Found an old mythology dictionary that belonged to my mother. I remember reading it in high school and planning on making illustrations of all the entries in it since it's a rather short and small book of about 240 pages. Ziselbog was actually made after reading this dictionary.
So I want to take up on this 'project' again, though I don't think I'll be making every single entry, perhaps only the ones I can imagine right away.
Anyway this is the first entry:

Abadiros - Así llamaban los cartagineses a los aerolitos y los consideraban como hijos del Dios del Fuego (Vulcano).

I'm still not sure how I want to represent the abadiros, if human or more rock-esque figures. But one thing is for sure it'll serve as good practice of many things like backgrounds and colouring.

This is closer to the style I had been using in previous comics.

Colouring

I'm trying to figure out new ways of colouring since I want to try making the next LAME webcomics with some color. So I've been working on a few tests, after browsing different artists' styles, there's so much talent out there I feel discouraged sometimes. Anyway, here are some of the things I browsed and decided to put in a small collage to use for reference.

Here are the tests and trials I did with Le Doc n Guys.

Acrylic Lion

I wanted to try painting with acrylic. Took this old sketch of a lion and tried on this one.

Then I added some ink because it otherwise looked like paint barf.

Doggie Calendar

Grabbed last year's doggie calendar and started sketching.

Pandalf's Ol' Tales

Working on the next webcomic, starring Pandalf and his love for storytelling. Here's a trial at the header

I also want to make a special font for the lettering of the title. Something smokey, but completely hand made, without assistance of a special brush or effect.
